Stephanie Doig Edits

A smiling woman with shoulder-length gray/brown hair, wearing a teal shirt, standing in front of a glass building.

I worked in traditional publishing for more than fifteen years, starting as an editorial assistant and eventually moving to senior editor at Harlequin’s Carina Press/Carina Adores. I’ve worked with debut and New York Times bestselling authors, and I’ve edited a variety of genres (although romance is my true passion!).

I am absolutely thrilled to be a freelance editor, specializing in romance, so I can share the knowledge I’ve gained in-house with a wide range of authors, no matter their career goals.

With every story I edit, I provide helpful, actionable feedback on plot, characterization, conflict, and other big-picture elements. Authors who work with me can expect to receive thorough, honest, encouraging edits. I aim to equip authors with the information they need to make their book the best it can be.

Testimonials

“I had the luck of working with Stephanie on my first 3 books. I say luck because that is truly how I felt: lucky, to have an editor that understood my vision, was enthusiastic about my work, and created an environment that helped me grow as an author while staying true to my voice for each book. My books - the ones she has worked on and the ones she hasn't - and my craft as a whole have been improved by Stephanie's guidance, her understanding of story and genre, and her commitment to helping authors create their best work. Stephanie Doig is my favourite editor in the industry to work with and I highly recommend her services, whether you are looking to level up your craft or seeking expert eyes for your next release.”

— Ruby Barrett, author of Hot Copy, The Romance Recipe, and The Friendship Study

“Stephanie is such a thoughtful, kind, and insightful editor. I appreciated how carefully she listened and worked with me to turn the books into the best version of themselves; work that paid off with thousands of happy readers!”

— Lindz McLeod, author of The Unlikely Pursuit of Mary Bennet and The Miseducation of Caroline Bingley

“Working with Stephanie was a truly formative experience for me as a debut author. Her insight and clarity made Weaponized and Scandalized stronger in every way. She has a rare ability to balance thoughtful encouragement with direct, honest feedback — the kind that pushes you as a writer while always respecting your voice and vision. Stephanie looked closely at pacing, characterization, and overall story, offering clear, concrete suggestions that helped me see what each book could be and how to get there. She didn’t just help refine my manuscripts; she helped me grow as a storyteller, and I’m deeply grateful for the impact she had on my work.”
